GoreStarter is a handy tool based on Left 4 Gore, a memory patcher, which patches the gore back into Left 4 Dead 2.
So GoreStarter is a better patching tool for Left 4 Dead 2?
No, it's just a piece of software, which uses Left 4 Gore itself, but get's rid of the disadvantages Left 4 Gore has.

The main thing : You'll often need to start Left 4 Gore first and then manually the game (in Steam for example). GoreStarter saves you some clicks and does this automatically (including fully automated Steam startup)
You'll need to download an updated version of Left 4 Gore manually, in case there is a new version coming out. GoreStarter has an fully featured updater, which does this automatically and without your action.
